The May family is pretty great. And pretty huge! Lucky for me, both sides of my family are big and Adam’s family is too, so I don’t get that “Wow-there-are-way-too-many-people-around-I-feel-like-running-and-hiding-in-a-corner” feeling that some people say they get at large family gatherings. On the contrary; I love it! I think there is nothing better than a table full of burgers and potato salad shared with a big family and half a dozen little ones chasing eachother around your ankles. Mmmmmm potato salad. :D
We did a few shots of the whole family ( all forty seven of them!), and then broke down into smaller groups, which of course is much easier. With large groups you just have to take a whole bunch and hope that there aren’t too many chronic blinkers in the crowd. Smaller groups make it much easier to pick a great background and keep an eye on expressions. :)
Here are some of my favourites:

These two claimed they weren’t any good at pictures… turns out they are naturals. :)

The get together took place on the family farm (Dairy farmers just like my grandpa!), so they had set out a large stack of haybales on a wagon as well as two tractors for the pictures. It looked great, and we made full use of them. The shot below is one of my favourites on the tractor:
